While we were on camp- 8th Dec
The hive was examined for APD- American Foulbrood. this wasn't completed because there was no caped broods. the queen is there for not laying well-so the hive is to bee re queened-this will happen tomorrow on 12th Dec when the new queen will be added (after the old queen is killed) we will not be able to enter the hive for one month. varroa stripes where taken out- confermed that there are no varroa mites in the hive

we took the top cover of the hive off and took off all the honey box.We replaced frames from ones that had been in the freezer. Then we took off the queen excluder and lifted 2 frames to look for larvae, pollen, nectar and capped honey. Then we put everything back together and watched for bees coming in with pollen.

our bee visit
we opened the hives.
we shook the bees off the frame.
we used smoke to make the bees think there is a fire. this makes drink more.It makes it safer for us to open and go into the hive we were checking to find the queen bee.
we were also checking for larvae, beeswax honey, and pollen on the frame
we used a brush to brush the bees off the lid. we used hive tools to clean the frame and remove the propolis we saw drones and worker bees.
our hive is going well-our bees are happy
whaea put in some bayvarol strips for varroa mites
